Q1. 90% response rate for paper/online-based feedback. Q2. Rating of administration/sessions
Q3. Please expand below on the sessions you felt were particularly useful, or on areas where you think improvements could be made.
1 Not enough time!!!!I should have gone with the 2 hours per session!
The first session was a bit hard for a number of the participants due to the wiki application used and having to sign up etc.
2 All sessions excellent and well received by the group. I appreciate the time for "hands on" Web 2.0 applications and the time to network with other ALESS members
3 I really enjoyed all of the sessions but I think my brain was on computer overload and I couldn't do justice to the last session, not because of its content, but because it was the 3rd computer type session. For me I was ready for a change of direction.
4 The wiki session needed more time and probably a support team moving around to assist people.3 sessions in a day is a good number. Start and finish time was good and food great.
5 Wikis is a great sharing platform for professional development. We just prove it today. Stype is wonderful in communicating with others - much more effective than using emails. Decided to give it a try right away to link up with the workgroup. Zoomerang is much easier than what I thought. All 3 sessions are very useful. We just need more time to explore and practice.I would suggest to focus on less topics but more hands-on time to gain confidence in using them.
6 I found the session on Wikis in school libraries very useful.
7 Really liked the way each session gave examples of using it in class situation.
8 They are all wondeful and useful. Hope we could keep this practice going on and lead us all to a successful professional world.
9 Enjoyed all sessions. Big learning curve with wikis but will practise. Using Skype was excellent because we could use and practise on-site.
10 All three were useful and fun to do. Overwhelming. Very good, thank you.
One suggestion I have is that although the space is wonderful for us, for the speaker I believe it may be difficult and distracting.
11 Wikis and Web 2.0 are very useful in enhancing the library service. It is fantastic that computer access is provided for the training. We can have the hands-on experience at the same time.
12 Skype was great - useful and adaptable for my library.
Web 2 tech - interesting but with only 100 users hard to do with 700 pupil school.
Wikis - I like the concept but felt that I'd have to look through everyone's page to see updates. Better to have subject headings which we could add to - don't think we should be able to change other's pages.
13 I was glad I eventually used Skype.
14 All the technologies covered have fantastic potential. Hopefully in the future we can cover more advanced functions as the group's collective ability improves.
15 Sessions were useful as some of these....all were very new to me and they proved a good introduction. Very educational and informative. Well paced.
16 Information literacy and technology are always good to know more.
17 Skype
18 Thanks for all the organisation, it was useful not only from a learning point of view, but also the social aspects of networking.
19 Need some step by step notes to take away to practise with so I will remember what to do as it's my first time with these.
The last sessions provided really practical ideas, showed how and why they were developed.
20 The Skype Session gave me lots of new ideas of how to use the technology in the Library.
I was impressed that I was able to actually to create a survey during the last session which we could all use!
21 Everything was really well organised.
22 I think that we should try to classify "Web 2.0 technologies". I tried to do it in ALESS wiki, but i do not want to suggest it as a best possible classification.
23 WIKIS: I appreciated most the samples of student collaborative work that was shown in wiki creations. Undoubtedly this is a very good way for groups to display their cumulative efforts.
SKYPE:Even though I was the presenter for the Skype portion the fact that we were in a Mac environment allowed for a great deal of review of the interface so that I gained a great deal. I was also encouraged by the many ways that the participants planned to use the information that I gave them immediately following the presentation.
24 Felt that there were real possibilities for a future Asian BoB competition using technology such as Skype. Very exciting and worthwhile trial exercise today!
25 I got lost in the Wiki session, just couldn't keep up!
Q4. 100% of responses indicated that ALESS should organise more professional development days.
26% indicated other areas of interest including teaching practices; author sharing/reading promotion; Library Curriculum development; Library Policy documents; Interactive White Boards - How TLs are using them?
Q6. 59% of the participants who responded are willing to offer Professional Development sessions, either as part of a future PD day or incorporated into our monthly ALESS meetings.
1 Information literacy, web 2.0
2 Maybe at a later date - we should all pitch in!
3 I have plenty to share, especially great teaching ideas, resource based teaching
4 I am willing (and booked in!) to do a session of visual literacy of sophisticated picture books
5 I would be happy to share my experience with Literature Circles.
6 Library Info Lit activities
7 Maybe another time.
8 Either as a whole day session or as a twilight session.
9 Will need to come up with something worthwhile.
10 Storytelling, as arranged, with Amanda.
11 Social Bookmarking and how it can be used to support Inquiry learning.
12 I already have a prepared workshop on podcasting that I've done in Shanghai but before I want to give a chance to other librarians to show their expertise in other areas.
13 Whatever need arises from the group I am happy to contribute where I can.
14 Skyping, organising a new T-L group - promotion.
15 IB programs/Online databases
Q8. Please use the space below to provide any other comments or suggestions. We will collate the feedback and publish the results on the ALESS wikispace.
1 great day, thanks for organising it
2 Thanks for a great day!
3 Facilities great, technology support good, a very successful day.
4 Huge thank you to all the organizers and contributors. It is a really good start!
5 Length of each session is good.
6 Fabulous thanks
7 The administration was excellent, just proved like minded group of educators with "a vision" could pull off a worthwhile CP Day with practical application and immediate use. Thanks Carolyn, Fiona & Andrea Roll on the next one!!
8 The environment is very good for learning but to some extent it is too far away. It took 2 hours for travelling there from my home.
9 Fantastic organisation Fiona & Carolyn.
10 I think it's a big successful workshop, thanks to all organisers.
11 Thank you for organising the day.
12 Thank you very much and I have learnt so much. Every presenter has done a wonderful job. Special thanks to Fiona and Carolyn and whoever helped to make this happen.
13 No cell phones - I found this a huge distraction.
14 Would like to see more practical, takeaway ideas we can use when we return to our own school - much like the showing times at our regular ALESS meetings.
15 Carolyn's venue and facilities were marvellous. All the presenters were superb!
16 I suggest that we have a closer look at ALESS librarians' skills, some are just to shy to talk about it.
17 Most likely each individual came away with something that sparked creativity in at least one area of their work. If we each came away with only one such item then the effort was well worth it and international school students city wide will benefit over the next few weeks, months, or possibly even years to come if the idea is big enough and implement
